How I Got into This Business

Clients sometimes ask me how I got into this business. Here’s my answer.

I was always a seeker, absorbing new information. I was living in Europe when I heard Dr Bradley Nelson (creator of the Emotion Code and the Body Code System) on a phone call with Kristen Howe (Go Big Coach) explaining muscle testing and that 80% of all dis-ease in the body was caused by old emotional baggage that got stuck in the body and didn’t process out naturally. There was a special offer at the end of the call, which I immediately purchased.

I started to teach myself muscle testing and then started asking about anything and everything that popped into my head. It was so cool that I went on to learn the Body Code system in addition to the Emotion Code process.

A few months later it dawned on me that I was no longer having migraines. No dark rooms, no pain, no pain medication, no giving myself pain shots, no throwing up from pain and nausea, nothing.

And the only thing different was that I had been working with this new system. So I started helping other people who also felt stuck in emotional or physical pain cycles who have gone through all the medical possibilities without relief. Now that has grown into a business of helping people (and young healers) grow into the version of themselves they know they can be. And it’s fantastic. 🌺

Night Terrors and Anxiety

“I was referred to Jean by someone she mentors in the EC/BC (Emotion Code/Body Code) program and it was a true blessing. She worked with both my children ages 4 and 11. The 4 year old was suffering from night terrors and the 11 year old from anxiety. After about two sessions my 4 year old was free of night terrors and I see a huge difference the attitude and overall outlook on life for my 11 year old. We had countless hours of therapy in the prior year and nothing compared to the difference I saw after the first few sessions with Jean. I highly recommend her and this modality of healing for anyone that is looking.” ~ S.K. from Northern Virginia

Both these kids were absolutely adorable! We did Skype sessions so I actually saw the children during each session even though we were in different locations. The 11 year old is like a different person than the one I saw initially – confident, happy, just experiencing life like other 11-year-olds! Such great stuff. 🙂

Benny the Cat’s Digestion

Here’s a good example of how using the Body Code to help animals is such an amazing tool.

Last week Kate came to me with a cat that has an ongoing history of bowel and digestion issues.  Here’s an excerpt from her email prior to our session:

“He [Benny] has a history of inflammatory bowel disease. Now he appears to have the symptoms back. In the past we have tried what the vet recommended (each med was tried separately) – a couple types of steroids and gabapentin. All the drugs gave him severe side effects and were stopped. The vet suggested trying alternative forms of health care. In general Benny‘s symptoms get worse for a while after going to the vet because of his extreme fear of the vet.

In the past few days he has increasingly squatted in discomfort about an hour or so after he eats. He’s been bloated. He’s had loose stools and one diarrhea episode yesterday. He tends to stay downstairs to be close to the litter box now. He’s eating, but less. He’s lethargic, but he will perk up for a few minutes from time to time and play with toys or chase the laser dot. Once yesterday he was lying like a immovable log for an hour, then a woodpecker started pecking on our closed door (mostly glass), and Benny bolted like lightning to go “catch” the woodpecker. In general he seems cognitively clearer than he has in past IBD episodes.”

We did a remote session on Benny, and I was told repeatedly (through Body Code protocols) that he should avoid the plant ‘nettles’.  The only food that tested as problematic was dehydrated chicken treats that he loves and eats every day.

There were no nettle plants in the house, and Benny is not an outdoor cat, so we were stumped as to why it continued to pop up as something to avoid.

Here’s the email I received from Kate the day after Benny’s Energy Healing session:

“Just thought you might be interested to know that per my googling, stinging nettle in chicken feed stimulates their egg laying year round and reportedly improves their immune function. So I guess the dehydrated chicken treats are from birds with a heavy nettle diet. Body Code is amazing.

Happy to report I found an organic butcher that carries chicken heart, hopefully not nettle fed…..  Benny is laying low today. He’s kept his roast chicken down, ate some finely chopped lettuce, and not had diarrhea, so I’m calling that good.”

This stuff is amazing!!!  Do you have something you’d like to explore?  Get on my calendar and we’ll see what comes up for you or your pet.  Sometimes it’s what you’d never expect…

What are Emotions?

Emotions come from a combination of forces – your thoughts, your evaluation of how much something matches your ideal, physical input from your body, and your actions.

Emotions begin in your brain, where they stimulate physical reactions that start an evaluation process. You judge a situation (or whatever is causing a certain feeling) by how much it matches your ideal. The closer it is to optimal, the more favorable your emotions.

Your body also creates physical responses to emotions.  When you are scared or surprised, your body may trigger a ‘flight or fight’ response.  Your heart races and you may feel flushed. These signals come from deep within your brain, where your mind is trying to protect you from danger and is preparing your body to respond to threats.

As you experience certain situations repeatedly, your body makes the determination that certain responses are appropriate, and these physical responses become ingrained.  The more often you experience a certain situation, the more ingrained your response may become.   And you may create an expectation of an outcome, rather than remaining open to other possibilities.

So, emotions are not just something your brain determines, and how one person feels in a situation can be entirely different from how another person may feel.

Some of my clients come to me with issues – and ingrained responses – that are negatively impacting their life in some way.  They make judgement calls of the events and their reactions based on their past experiences.

Sometimes these determinations don’t necessarily line up with my outsider’s view of events and logical reactions.

That’s where Energy Healing comes in.

I can’t tell you the number of times I hear at the end of a session:

  • “I feel so much lighter!”
  • “I’m doing really good on the inside!”
  • “More of that happiness is coming up!”
  • “This is so weird – I don’t feel anxious at all!”
  • “Inner calm is filling me up.”
  • “I’m feeling so much better – I feel like I’m back in my body and not just in my head.”
  • “Of all the things I’ve tried, this is what works best for me.”
  • “This is so focused on working through RIGHT NOW.  I always feel different after our calls.”

Is that something you’d like to experience for yourself?  I’m here when you’re ready.

The Power of Your Mentor

Is your business where you want it to be?  Are you confident in your skillset? Do you push yourself to take one step outside your comfort zone to reach the next goal?  Are you willing to invest in yourself?  And the big question:  Do you believe you are worth the investment?

I’m a firm believer in passing on knowledge.  Knowledge is power, and more knowledge creates stronger, more immediate power.

In the business world, I created my staff with each person constantly training their replacement.  This created comradery, confidence, and the most knowledgeable regions in the country in our specialized field.   We were cohesive, knowledgeable, and powerful.

And you can have that same confidence and power.

You can have it faster if you find a good mentor – and milk him/her for every bit of knowledge you can grab.

Not All Mentors Are Created Equal

Find an expert who has walked the path you want to travel.  Look – and listen – for evidence of success.

I consider myself pretty savvy.  That being said, I am one of those people who paid LOTS of money to a mentor who turned out not to be a great fit.  I went into the program with doubts, hopeful that his success would translate to my success.  Unfortunately, about 6 months into the 1-year program (with zero results from my end) he let it slip that he had only worked with one other healer, without success.

If I had known that he had no expertise in my field I would have made a different choice.  If he had been honest upfront I wouldn’t have felt so blindsided.  I paid for an expert with no targeted experience.   Lesson learned.  (This mentor program makes him lots of money, so it is definitely a successful program from his viewpoint.)

Benefits of a Good Mentor

A mentor can view your life from an outsider’s perspective. They can advise you on what changes to make while keeping what you are doing right. It can be a hard pill to swallow, but a good mentor will be sensitive to how he or she presents your critique.

Your mentor can also give you the encouragement that helps you to believe in yourself once again. He or she can reignite the spark that has been missing in your life.

You want to be selective in your potential mentor candidates. Make sure you ask targeted questions and try to find people who have used the mentors you are considering. Make sure you include accountability as part of your program.

It’s great to have a mentor give you advice. However, if you don’t take it, you are wasting your time and money. Be aware that the help he or she provides is likely to put you outside your comfort zone. You will be asked to do tasks that you never imagined you would be doing. You’ll find this both scary and exciting. You will be surprised what you can do.

If nothing seems to be working for you, it may be time to use a mentor.

You can use a mentor for more than guiding your career. Life coaches can hold you accountable for personal growth.  There are some great life coaches out there.  Don’t get hung up on credentials.  It’s still a young field and ‘certification’ credentials might not mean a lot.  Find someone that feels right and creates the results you’re looking for.

I mentor healers.

If you’re a young healer, or an experienced healer who still has questions, I’m here for you.  I work with healers in different ways.

  • Book an Initial Consultation so we can talk.  We’ll discuss your goals and how you’d like to move forward.
  • If you’d like the freeform version, you can book Power Sessions at any time after the Initial Consultation to ask any questions you can think of.  You can book as many Power Sessions as you’d like, anytime you’d like (as long as there is an opening on my calendar).  I work with you as a mentor/coach, but each session is totally dependent upon your action to book your next session.
  • Book a 2-day intensive.  This is a special event created just for you, based on your experience level and your stated training objectives.  In-person or online, either is conducted one-on-one.  You get my undivided attention.

Get in touch if you want to talk.  I’d love to be your mentor, your coach, or just a resource to help you build your skills.

Do You Grind Your Teeth?

I can’t tell you how many of my clients (eventually) mention that they grind their teeth in their sleep.  They go to the dentist.  They get piece of plastic to put in their mouth to keep from destroying their teeth.  They learn to sleep and breathe around the weird device.

They take all the steps to address the symptom.  But they don’t address the actual cause.

Stress at home.  Stress at work.  Financial stress.  More stress.

Most people don’t notice or don’t get the connection between stress and the physical signs/symptoms of stress. Stress and tension that you carry through your day can be so intense that signs of stress may even show up during sleep hours:

  • Swirling thoughts that keep you tossing and turning.
  • Interrupted sleep throughout the night.
  • Grinding your teeth.

Some Immediate Dangers

Teeth grinding can cause damage not only your teeth, but can also exert unnatural stress on your jaws and musculature. This can result in waking up to pain that radiates from your jaw, particularly where it connects to your skull. This can throw off the alignment of your teeth in addition to wearing down the structure of the teeth.

Things You Can Try

To treat the symptom, the first thing many people do is find out how they can keep these teeth away from each other when they sleep. This can be done using different types of mouthguards until you can find some more long-term solutions to the problem. You can also try limiting the amount of caffeine and other stimulants that you intake in a day. Stimulants are known for causing a buildup of stress when they are used too often or taken right before bed, but it’s also possible that these manifestations could be signs of other issues that your body has been experiencing.

Deeper Causes

If you haven’t been able to reduce the amount of teeth grinding that you find yourself doing during your journey, then it’s entirely possible that you might have to have some kind of sleep study done. This is important because it’s entirely possible that the teeth grinding is a sign of a more serious disorder like sleep apnea, which could easily develop into something life threatening. Sleep Apnea occurs when your breathing becomes obstructed, so this can lead to interrupted sleep, daytime drowsiness, and in some cases, even death, so you should try to find out the source of this discomfort with an urgent effort.

The good news about teeth grinding is that it is relatively easy to treat. You can visit your dentist to get a mouth guard, which will be placed over your top and bottom teeth, providing a barrier between the top and bottom rows of teeth. That way, even if you try to clench or grind your teeth, they won’t make contact, therefore protecting the enamel. Over time, you will start reducing the habit thanks to the mouth guard, so you might not have to wear it for the rest of your life.

But what if you want to get rid of the habit of teeth grinding and throw away the unnatural appliances?  You’ve been to all the doctors, and there is no physical reason for you to grind your teeth.  You’ve lived many years without this habit, and want to get back to a more relaxed state of sleep.

  • Step 1 – Look at your life.  What stressors do you live with – and ignore- on a daily basis?
  • Step 2 – Make a change based on what you uncovered in Step 1

It’s probably that simple.  Your body has been screaming at you, trying to get your attention.  You haven’t made the connection until now, and you’ve been ignoring all the ‘danger’ signals your body has been sending.

If you need help translating what your body is trying to tell you, get on my calendar.  We’ll explore what your body is saying, that you haven’t been hearing.

Things can change.  It’s your choice.  When will you choose YOU?
