Is your business where you want it to be? Are you confident in your skillset? Do you push yourself to take one step outside your comfort zone to reach the next goal? Are you willing to invest in yourself? And the big question: Do you believe you are worth the investment?
I’m a firm believer in passing on knowledge. Knowledge is power, and more knowledge creates stronger, more immediate power.
In the business world, I created my staff with each person constantly training their replacement. This created comradery, confidence, and the most knowledgeable regions in the country in our specialized field. We were cohesive, knowledgeable, and powerful.
And you can have that same confidence and power.
You can have it faster if you find a good mentor – and milk him/her for every bit of knowledge you can grab.
Not All Mentors Are Created Equal
Find an expert who has walked the path you want to travel. Look – and listen – for evidence of success.
I consider myself pretty savvy. That being said, I am one of those people who paid LOTS of money to a mentor who turned out not to be a great fit. I went into the program with doubts, hopeful that his success would translate to my success. Unfortunately, about 6 months into the 1-year program (with zero results from my end) he let it slip that he had only worked with one other healer, without success.
If I had known that he had no expertise in my field I would have made a different choice. If he had been honest upfront I wouldn’t have felt so blindsided. I paid for an expert with no targeted experience. Lesson learned. (This mentor program makes him lots of money, so it is definitely a successful program from his viewpoint.)
Benefits of a Good Mentor
A mentor can view your life from an outsider’s perspective. They can advise you on what changes to make while keeping what you are doing right. It can be a hard pill to swallow, but a good mentor will be sensitive to how he or she presents your critique.
Your mentor can also give you the encouragement that helps you to believe in yourself once again. He or she can reignite the spark that has been missing in your life.
You want to be selective in your potential mentor candidates. Make sure you ask targeted questions and try to find people who have used the mentors you are considering. Make sure you include accountability as part of your program.
It’s great to have a mentor give you advice. However, if you don’t take it, you are wasting your time and money. Be aware that the help he or she provides is likely to put you outside your comfort zone. You will be asked to do tasks that you never imagined you would be doing. You’ll find this both scary and exciting. You will be surprised what you can do.
If nothing seems to be working for you, it may be time to use a mentor.
You can use a mentor for more than guiding your career. Life coaches can hold you accountable for personal growth. There are some great life coaches out there. Don’t get hung up on credentials. It’s still a young field and ‘certification’ credentials might not mean a lot. Find someone that feels right and creates the results you’re looking for.
I mentor healers.
If you’re a young healer, or an experienced healer who still has questions, I’m here for you. I work with healers in different ways.
- Book an Initial Consultation so we can talk. We’ll discuss your goals and how you’d like to move forward.
- If you’d like the freeform version, you can book Power Sessions at any time after the Initial Consultation to ask any questions you can think of. You can book as many Power Sessions as you’d like, anytime you’d like (as long as there is an opening on my calendar). I work with you as a mentor/coach, but each session is totally dependent upon your action to book your next session.
- Book a 2-day intensive. This is a special event created just for you, based on your experience level and your stated training objectives. In-person or online, either is conducted one-on-one. You get my undivided attention.
Get in touch if you want to talk. I’d love to be your mentor, your coach, or just a resource to help you build your skills.
